North Notts Beer Festival Dates
20:15 - 26/08/2008
The dates for the next North Notts Beer Festival have been incorrectly published in the latest issue of What's Brewing and on the main CAMRA website.
This year's festival will run between Thursday 9th and Saturday 11th October. Please don't turn up on the dates listed in What's Brewing as we won't be there!
For more information on our festival, visit its official website at www.nnottscamra.co.uk/festival.
Help will be needed for set-up on Tuesday 7th October. If you're available to help, email festival@nnottscamra.co.uk.
Thanks to the Idle Brewery
19:52 - 10/06/2008
The North Notts Branch of CAMRA would like to thank Brian Cooper, Head Brewer from Idle for the tour around his brewery at the beginning of June. Brian and his assistant, Alan Gill have been producing beers at the back of the White Hart pub in West Stockwith since April 2007 using the old Broadstone plant.
Thanks also goes to Wayne and the staff at the White Hart for arranging with Brian five of the Idle Brewery's beers to be on handpull. These were Idle Sod (4.2%), Idle Boggin (3.8%), Idle Cricketer (4.4%), Idle Chef (4.0%), and Black Abbot (4.5%). All were of high quality and enjoyed by everyone who attended.
North Notts Pub of the Year 2008
21:49 - 01/06/2008
The Rum Runner in Retford has been awarded the title of North Nottinghamshire Pub of the Year 2008. The Wharf Road pub scored highly in a survey of the branch for its beer quality, atmosphere, service and value.
The pub was on downward spiral in terms of beer quality until Karen Lang-Norris took over as manager before Christmas 2007. Since then, she has introduced a range of guest beers from various breweries in the local area.
Branch Secretary, Kevin Keane said, “The branch were particularly impressed with efforts of Karen in transforming the Rum Runner in the short period of time she had been in-charge.”
In April, the Rum Runner ran it’s first beer festival, featuring a variety over a dozen real ales and ciders. The next festival has been planned for the 4th, 5th and 6th July 2008.
The Rum Runner goes forward to Nottinghamshire pub of the year judging, decided by other CAMRA members in the county as the next stage of deciding the overall CAMRA Pub of the Year.

Busy Spring for Branch
20:04 - 28/03/2008
There are plenty of small festivals taking place in and around the North Notts Branch area over Spring with real ale as their theme.
Wetherspoon's Dominie Cross in Retford and the Liquoirce Gardens in Worksop are in the middle of their festival with a wide range of beers available from all over the world, but there are also a number of events taking place in some of the local pubs.
The 18th and 19th April sees the Mallard at Worksop Railway Station hold it's St George's Day Festival, featuring 10+ real ales.
The Rum Runner in Retford is holding a festival between 25th and 27th April where it is holding its first festival under new ownership.
In the small village of Headon, just south of Retford, the village club invites CAMRA members to attend their celebration of their 100th real ale.
Over Spring Bank Holiday at the end of May, there are two festivals taking place. One is at the Red Hart in Blyth where 10+ ales will be available. The other is at Haxey Cricket Club, just north of Misterton where 30+ beers will be on sale.
Also, there are a couple of festivals run by our neighbouring branches. The Mansfield Beer Festival is on between 10th and 13th April, whilst the Barrow Hill Rail Ale Festival takes place just outside Staveley on 16th and 17th May.

Donation Made In Memory of Snowy
22:14 - 07/03/2008
The North Notts Branch of CAMRA and the staff and customers of the Regancy and Mallard pubs in Worksop have helped raise over £300 in memory of Gerald Latham, better known as Snowy.
Snowy as a much loved regular in both pubs and well known to the branch, even though he only joined CAMRA very recently.
Since he passed away in January, a quiz night has been held, donations were made in the Regancy and at the Mallard's Winter Beer Festival and at the branch's AGM in March, a raffle and auction was held.
All the money raised has been donated in Snowy's memory to the RNLI, a charity that he was a keen supporter of.
