Good Beer Guide 2012

17:03 - 10/09/2011

The 39th Edition of the CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide features 13 of North Nottinghamshire’s best real ale pubs. Unlike other pub guides, all of the pubs included have been visited, recommended and selected by CAMRA volunteers.
With real ale becoming increasingly popular in the area, the choice that the North Nottinghamshire Branch membership had to make was even tougher than in previous years. Due to the size of the area, two days of criss-crossing Bassetlaw was needed to visit as many of the region’s pubs as possible before making the final selection.
About making the selection, North Nottinghamshire Branch Contact, Stephen Watkins said, “It’s always difficult to decide which pubs to include in the guide as each one offers something different to their customers. Just because a pub isn’t included in the guide, it doesn’t mean that it is a bad pub! There are still plenty of places to go to get a good pint in north Nottinghamshire. There have been some very good pubs open in the past couple of months that have just missed out being included this year.”
The guide also contains details of two local breweries which have started producing real ale in the last year.
Prior’s Well Brewery is situated in Hardwick Village on the Clumber Park estate by Gary Hobbs and Rob Neil. It uses water from its own well in the park to produce it’s beers as well using local produce wherever possible from the local area.
The Welbeck Abbey Brewery is the other new addition to the guide. In just four months, Head Brewster, Claire Monk is already producing up to 5760 pints per week, delivering to 55 pubs in the area. Welbeck Abbey beers have recently started being sold in bottles with great success.
The Good Beer Guide 2012 covers all of Great Britain, featuring over 4500 urban and rural pubs. It includes details of all of the country’s breweries with tasting notes for most of their beers. Smart-phone versions are also available, making it the perfect companion when out and about.
